Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The 15th Biennale Jogja 2019 that displays contemporary arts held in Yogyakarta from 20 October to 30 November specifically invites five Taiwanese artists to showcase their works.
Earlier, Executive Director of the Biennale Jogja Foundation Alia Swastika visited Taiwan to study some works of Taiwanese artists which could be participated in the event according to Indonesian perspectives, as mentioned in a statement from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) received by Indonesia Window here on Sunday.
The works of Taiwanese artists are displayed under a theme The Library of Possible Encounters.
The contents of the theme are very diverse. The artists will go to the factory in Yogyakarta to print logos of objects, and use objects in daily life to make installation art.
They also use films to tell the history of Kim Men’s immigration to Indonesia and make a film that tells stories on foreign migrant workers using electronic music to integrate feminism.
The art works which aimed at strengthening the Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy through cultural exchange are showcased at the Jogja Contemporary venue in the Yogyakarta National Museum, at the Taiwan Pavilion.
In addition, the Biennale Jogja has the East Timor Pavilion and the Hong Kong Pavilion, opening many more opportunities for cultural exchange among nations in the world.
