Students of Islamic boarding school are considered an outstanding generation, particularly in realizing Indonesia’s Golden Generation in 2045, as they consistently study the Quran and Islamic teachings.

Bogor, W Java (Indonesia Window) — The Speaker of the Bogor city’s House of Representatives (DPRD), Dr. Adityawarman Adil, said that 'santri' (Islamic boarding school students) represent an outstanding generation, especially in efforts to realize Indonesia’s Golden Generation in 2045.

“The advantage of santri is that they have a deeper understanding of the Quran because they study the Muslims’ holy book and religious knowledge. This will become the foundation for future change,” he said in an interview with Indonesia Window after delivering remarks and motivation to more than 100 participants of a one-day learning program in Ramadan 1447 Hijri, which is locally known as Sanlat in Indonesia’s Bogor city, West Java province, on Wednesday.

The annual event, which has been held for the past 15 years, was organized by the Komunitas Wartawan Jabodetabek (the Greater Jakarta Journalists Community) in collaboration with the Ar Ruhama boarding school in Bogor under the theme ‘Welcoming Indonesia’s Young Generation 2045: Intelligent, Noble in Character, and Quranic in Spirit.’

The Bogor DPRD speaker added that the enthusiasm and energy of young people, particularly santri, must be properly directed so they can bring positive change to the nation.

If guided correctly, he believes this potential would help Indonesia achieve its Golden Generation in 2045.

The year 2045 is seen as a significant milestone for Indonesia as it marks the centennial of the country’s independence.

By that time, today’s youth are expected to be at a productive and mature age in various fields.

“The future of the nation will depend on young people. Whether the changes are good or bad would be determined by them. In 2045 they will be at a mature age, so their role is expected to be very decisive,” he noted.

Adityawarman also shared several tips for santri to optimize their role as Indonesia’s outstanding generation.

The first step, he said, is to cultivate a strong spirit of learning and continuously broaden their knowledge.

This learning spirit should not be limited to formal education but should also include improving communication skills and expanding positive social networks.

“The first thing is to have a strong spirit for learning—enthusiasm for gaining knowledge, expanding insights, improving communication, and developing networks,” he explained.

He further emphasized the importance of choosing the right environment. According to him, social surroundings have a major influence on character formation and personal development.

“The second is choosing a good and appropriate environment, because the environment is one of the key factors that helps someone grow and develop well,” he said.

Dr. Adityawarman explained that by interacting with people who uphold positive values, young people will find it easier to develop noble character.

These moral values and character traits are considered essential foundations for bringing about positive change.

“If they interact with good and pious people, God willing their character will be formed well. When someone already has good character, there will naturally be a desire to continue making positive changes,” he added.

Through a strong learning spirit and a positive environment, young people are expected to grow into individuals who are knowledgeable, possess strong character, and are ready to contribute to the nation’s future.

He also expressed hope that character-building activities such as the one-day Islamic learning program would provide important guidance so that young people do not take the wrong path in shaping their future.

The event was facilitated by the Bogor City's DPRD in collaboration with several partners, including the Indonesian Safari Park in Bogor, Tatajabar, Cibinong Center Industrial Estate, Indonesia’s national news agency ANTARA, Dr Chiken, Indocement, Yayasan Baitul Maal BRILiaN, Pupuk Indonesia Niaga, Alfamart, The Jungle Waterpark Bogor, AQUA, PT Saraswanti Indo Genetech, Lezza, Aviary Park Indonesia, and BAMUIS BNI.

Also present was the Corporate Secretary of Perum LKBN ANTARA, Bayu Prasetyo, representing ANTARA President Director Benny Siga Butarbutar.

Participants of the event included senior high school–level students from Ar Ruhama boarding school in Bogor as well as several university students from various institutions.
