Indonesia is expected to produce mass-produce electric sedans by 2028, as a strategic step in strengthening the independence of the national automotive industry based on clean energy.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that Indonesia would be able to produce mass-produce electric sedans by 2028, as a strategic step in strengthening the independence of the national automotive industry based on clean energy.
"Today I am very happy, I am very proud. We now have the capacity in Indonesia to produce electric buses and trucks. This is very, very important and is indeed our plan. I hope that by 2028 we will have mass-production of electric sedans," the president said in his remarks at the inauguration of PT VKTR Sakti Industries' electric commercial vehicle assembly facility in Magelang District, Central Java Province, Thursday (April 9).
On the occasion, the president also highlighted the increase in domestic industrial production capacity, with PT VKTR Sakti Industries' production capacity reaching 10,000 units, with a current domestic component content of 40 percent.
"In the near future, perhaps in two years, it is expected to reach 60 percent. Two years after that, it is expected to reach 80 percent," he added.
The head of state also appreciated the support of various parties, such as the provincial governments of Central Java and Jakarta, in encouraging the use of domestic products, and hoped that other provincial governments would follow suit.
"We hope that other provincial governments will also support and purchase our own national products throughout the country," he said.
Regarding electric sedan production, Prabowo stated that the central government is establishing a company to produce electric sedans as part of strengthening the national electric vehicle ecosystem.
He hopes the national electric vehicle industry would produce leading companies that can compete globally.
With a stronger industrial foundation, consistent policy support, and collaboration between the government and the private sector, Indonesia is poised to become not just a player, but a leader in the global electric vehicle industry.
The inauguration of PT VKTR Sakti Industries' electric commercial vehicle assembly facility symbolizes the rise of the national industry, affirming Indonesia's ability to stand on its own two feet with technological mastery to deliver clean, efficient, and highly competitive future solutions on the global stage.
