Indonesia's position in the world trade in plastics and plastic products ranks 38th among the world's plastic exporting countries with a value of 2.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2021.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has released the first export of packaging container products made of premium quality plastic with the trademark 'Moorlife' produced by PT CMN International Indonesia (PT CMN) to the Philippines.

The export of 17 containers of Moorlife products with a value of 435,000 U.S. dollars was released on Thursday (Aug. 25) in Sidoarjo district, East Java province, the Ministry of Trade said in a statement received here on Friday.

The event was attended, among others, by the Director of Bilateral Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Sidoarjo District Head Ahmad Muhdlor Ali as well as President Director and Founder of Moorlife Hermanto Tanoko.

On a separate occasion, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi said the ministry appreciated the success of PT CMN International Indonesia in penetrating the export market through its first export to the Philippines.

“This achievement certainly contributes to boosting the performance of the Indonesia’s trade balance, especially its non-oil and non-gas exports in the midst of today's global challenges," Didi noted.

Meanwhile, according to Made Ayu, Indonesia's positive trade performance is inseparable from the role of business actors in encouraging non-oil and non-gas exports to trading partner countries.

"The first export of Moorlife products to the Philippines is proof of the effort to encourage the export," Made Ayu said, adding that currently the Philippines imports plastics and plastic products, especially from China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and South Korea.

Indonesia is ranked 9th as a supplier of plastics and plastic products to the Philippines, with export growth of 28.60 percent compared to that in 2020.

"I am optimistic that by the end of 2022, Indonesia's plastic export performance to the Philippines would continue to increase both in terms of value and volume," Made Ayu said.

The country’s export growth trend for plastics and plastic products to the world during the five-year period (2017-2021) also grew positively by 3.73 percent.

"This shows that Indonesia's export performance of plastics and plastic products to the world continues to increase in value and is able to take advantage of world market opportunities,” Made Ayu explained.

In addition, Indonesia's exports of plastics and plastic products in the midst of the pandemic also showed recovery and increased by 10.63 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, she said.
