Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia Asahan Aluminum or Inalum Operating, a state-owned company engaged in aluminum industry, in 2021 produced 243,000 tons of aluminum with sales of 218,000 tons.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Inalum continued to maintain the supply chain of raw materials and the performance of hydro power plants as the company’s main energy source.

Inalum Operating's positive performance was supported by the optimal performance of the three main facilities of the aluminum smelting plant, namely carbon, reduction and molding plants.

In 2021, the average number of operational furnaces were 458 units out of a total of 510 units, or 90 percent of the installed capacity in the reduction plant.

In addition, Inalum Operating produces a total electrical energy of 4,041,774 MWh (megawatt per hour) with a consumption rate of 4,027,118 MWh.

Inalum Operating also recorded a surplus of electricity distributed to Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company (PLN) of 41,447 MWh, an increase of 10 percent from the previous year.

The use of new and renewable energy in the aluminum production processes makes Inalum Operating’s facility the only smelter that produces low emissions among members of Indonesia’s national mining industry holding, MIND ID.

Inalum Operating continues to be committed to increasing added-value products through the national aluminum industry cluster development initiative.

Through its subsidiary Indonesia Aluminum Alloy (IAA), the state-owned enterprise will also gradually produce secondary aluminum billets with a production capacity of 50,000 tons per year.

In the future, the company will also produce various extruded aluminum products as derivative products.
