Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – So far Taiwan has shown optimal efforts in addressing the global climate change, emphasizing its great role and importance in protecting the world’s environment.

Taiwan’s Minister of Environmental Protection Chang Tzi-chin mentioned that the FORMOSAT-3 satellite launched by Taiwan in 2006 had collected more than 10 million meteorological data.

Meanwhile, the FORMOSAT-7 Satellite launched this year will more effectively increase the accuracy of extreme weather forecasts and make a positive contribution to setting global weather forecasts and addressing the climate change.

In addition, Taiwan also facilitates scientific research free of charge to scholars from various countries, according to a statement from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) received by Indonesia Window here on Sunday.

According to Minister Chang, Taiwan has formulated a National Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan to build a resilience system in response to the climate change that includes eight aspects, namely disaster, survival infrastructure, water resources, land security, coastal security, energy and industry, agriculture, and health.

With all Taiwan’s efforts to deal with climate change so far, Minister Chang stressed that it was very unfair for Taiwan to be excluded from international organizations because of political prejudice.

The exclusion of Taiwan from the global system for handling climate change is contrary to the spirit of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) or the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which calls for all countries to work together broadly.

Taiwan’s exception also ignores the Paris Agreement which stresses Climate Justice and calls for the importance of action by countries around the world and contrary to the goal of the UN Charter, so that it will weaken the international structure and endanger the world.

In dealing with the international community, Taiwan is a sincere and responsible friend, and wants to contribute.
