Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Red and White Mosque, whose construction was funded by the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, is now present in the Ronting area, East Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia.

The Red and White Mosque, also known as the Al Istiqomah Mosque in Ronting, was inaugurated to coincide with the 74th Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 2019, by the Founder and Trustee of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, Parni Hadi.

Parni Hadi, who once led three major mass media in Indonesia, said in a short message on social media on Monday that the construction of the Red and White Mosque is a form of Islamic propagation under the theme of economic empowerment, welfare, education and culture based on faith and piety.

Parni Hadi, who is also a senior journalist, said that the building of the mosque with a unique red and white dome had also been established before in Parung, Bogor, West Java, on April 29, 2016.

He explained that the red and white color on the dome of the mosque was inspired by the spirit of Great Prime Minister Gajah Mada during the Majapahit Kingdom that carried the Gula Kelapa Flag in an effort to unite the entire archipelago (Indonesia).  Gula or browh sugar represents red color and Kelapa or coconut pulp shows white color in the flag.

Dompet Dhuafa is an Islamic donation institution sourced among others from Islamic alms (zakat and infaq) and endowments in an effort to empower the poor through cultural approaches such as philanthropic activities and prophetic social entrepreneurship.
