Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, discussed a number of important agendas related to relations between Indonesia and Pakistan when they met on December 18, 2024 in Egypt to attend the 11th D-8 Summit on December 17-19, 2024.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, held a bilateral meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, at the St Regis New Capital Hotel, Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
The meeting reflected the commitment of both countries to strengthen the relations that have been established so far, according to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat in a written statement on Thursday.
On the occasion, the Indonesian President and the Pakistani Prime Minister discussed a number of important agendas related to the bilateral relations.
In his statement, the Indonesian President emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial economic collaboration between the two countries.
“I just met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan discussed the possibility of cooperation, increasing cooperation in the economic and trade sectors,” Prabowo said in his statement to journalists following the meeting.
Not only with Pakistan, the President also conveyed a number of efforts made by Indonesia to build strong cooperative relations, including with members of the Developing Eight (D-8) in the summit.
According to the President, the main focus that Indonesia brought to the 11th D-8 Summit is strengthening economic cooperation between D-8 member countries. The potential for cooperation with various countries is expected to be strengthened further for the welfare of the peoples.
“We discussed all possibilities for cooperation. Now our focus is how to strengthen our respective economies,” he said.
Previously President Prabowo held a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-sisi, at the Al Ittihadiya Presidential Palace during his state visit to Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
In the meeting, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome given by the Egyptian government and people, according to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat in a written statement on Thursday.
“It is an honor for me to carry out the first state visit by a President of the Republic of Indonesia in the last 10 years,” Prabowo said in a joint press statement with El-Sisi after the meeting.
Emphasizing the importance of Egypt in Indonesia’s historical and diplomatic relations, the head of state also explained that the country located on the African continent was the first country to recognize Indonesia’s independence.
