Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) has called on Israel not to desecrate the holy month of Ramadan and stop all its brutality over the Palestinians.

“In the name of humanity, we ask Israel to respect the holy month of Ramadan and stop all their dreadful acts against the Palestinian Muslims,” chairman of the MER-C Presidium Sarbini Abdul Murad said in a written statement received here on Tuesday (Apr. 5).

Sarbini said that during Ramadan the Palestinians could not worship in peace as Israeli Zionists keep terrorizing them. Recently, Israeli police arrested and injured a number of Palestinians in Damascus for celebrating Ramadan.

“We ask Israel to respect the rights of the Palestinian Muslims both in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip so they are able to have Ramadan in peace,” he said.

In addition, MER-C hoped that the international community would react to the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinians.

“We hope that the international community will not remain silent and will also put pressure on Israel so that Israeli violence in this holy month does not continue and expand, which will cause more victims,” Sarbini said.

In line with Sarbini, Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye called on the world to stop Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.

“Israel’s escalation against Palestinians, which includes killing, torture, arrests and allowing settlers to commit crimes, poses a tremendous threat to security and stability in the region,” Ishtaye said.

He called on the international community to stop attacks and end the Israeli extremist violations against the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque as they were preparing to storm the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

Al-Aqsa Mosque complex is a sacred site for Muslims, as well as Jews, who refer it as the Temple Mount.
