Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – An Indonesia’s geological figure, Prof. Dr. RP Koesoemadinata, on Monday launched a book entitled An Introduction into The Geology of Indonesia.
Prof. Koesoemadinata, who has dedicated his life in geology for more than 60 years, said the book was a summary of geological data from research, investigation and exploration in Indonesia during the 75 years of the national independence.
“I dedicate this book to all geologists in the field, who have to take months to cross rivers and climb mountains throughout Indonesia for geological surveys,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif stated that the book is one of the references in energy and mineral explorations in the archipelagic country.
“One of the references used by Indonesia’s Geological Agency is An Introduction into The Geology of Indonesia by Prof. Dr. RP Koesoemadinata,” Arifin said in a virtual book launch on Monday.
The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basoeki Hadimoeljono also expressed his appreciation for the book.
“This book enriches knowledge about geo resources, especially about volcanology, eruptions and earthquakes. The ministry, which in the next five years is intensively building infrastructures, will be greatly helped by this book,” Basuki said.
Geology is one of the branches of earth science that is very close to human life.
Among the roles of geologists are in the exploration of water, minerals and energy resources; disaster mitigation of volcanic eruptions, landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis; as well as research on fossils and artifacts that direct us to understand the history about the universe, earth and humans.
