Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has stated that Indonesia’s food security has been getting better, marked by the absence of rice imports in the last three years.
“Alhamdulillah, for the last three years we have not imported rice, and even this year, the stock until the end of the year has reached 7 million tons,” said Airlangga when opening the Panen Raya Nusantara (grand harvest) event in Jakarta on Wednesday.
With this achievement, he added, the president asked Indonesia to export 200,000 tons of rice.
Airlangga said that the Indonesian government is focusing on the availability of domestic food, considering that there are 24 countries that prohibit exports of food commodities, although seven of them have relaxed.
According to the coordinating minister, food commodities that are prohibited for exports are wheat, chicken, and other horticultural products, including fertilizers.
Airlangga explained that there are three key efforts that will be implemented by the government to achieve food availability, namely securing supply, increasing food diversification, and implementing efficiency.
To make Indonesia a success as the G20 Presidency, the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs organized the Panen Raya Nusantara Kick Off Events to support the G20 event from the food and agribusiness sector under the theme Indonesian Food for a Better World.
