Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia is in the top five countries with the highest COVID-19 vaccination coverage globally, along with China, India, the United States and Brazil.

“Our World in Data show that as of January 4, 2022, Indonesia has injected 281,574,183 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. This achievement brings Indonesia to become one of the five countries with the highest vaccination coverage in the world,” Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said in a press release received here on Friday (Jan. 7).

Data from the Ministry of Health show that as of Thursday (Jan. 6) the number of the first doses of vaccine recipients was 167,999,777 people, the second dose recipients were 115,554,584 people, and the third injection recipients were recorded at 1,297,372 people.

The minister said that the government was intensifying vaccination services to complete the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination for 208.2 million of Indonesian people by March or April 2022.

He ensured that the domestic stockpile of COVID-19 vaccines was still safe even though the number of vaccination targets increased after the government decided to vaccinate children aged six to 11 years old and give booster doses.

“Now we have around 140 million doses of vaccines. We are targeting the vaccination rate to reach 50 million people within one month. We have also prepared a booster vaccination in anticipation of the Omicron variant,” Budi Gunadi said.
