Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that the number of positive cases of COVID-19 will reach one million globally in the next few days.
“As we enter the fourth month since the start of COVID-19 pandemic, I am deeply concerned of the rapid escalation and global spread of infection,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement delivered at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday (April 1).
He added, “Over the past five weeks we have witnessed an exponential growth in the number of new cases, reaching almost every county, territory and area.”
According to him, the number of those has more than double in the past week.
“In the next few days, we will reach one million of confirmed cases and 50 thousand deaths,” Ghebreyesus said.
So far, the number of COVID-19 positive cases worldwide has reached 935,957, with 47,245 deaths, while 194,286 patients have been recovered.
