Banten Provincial Language Office and Krakatau Posco have agreed to coordinate and cooperate on the language program, especially in the industrial sector.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Krakatau Posco has invited Banten Provincial Language Office to explore linguistic cooperation as a follow-up to the Indonesian Language Program for foreign workers in Cilegon City, Banten Province, in August 2023.
The discussion on the possibility of cooperation took place at the steel company Krakatau Posco office in Cilegon City, Banten Province, on September 26 2023, the Banten Provincial Language Office said in a press statement on Friday.
The Head of the Banten Language Office, Asep Juanda, along with his team and the Head of the Affiliation of Indonesian Language Teachers and Activist of the Indonesian Language for Foreign Workers in Banten, Tito Dimas, was warmly welcomed by representatives from the steel company, including the Head of the HR Department, Andri, Training Team Leader Sayid Bahri Sriwijaya, and a staff member of the company’s training department, Guntur.
On the occasion, Asep Juanda expressed his thanks for the invitation from Krakatau Posco and appreciated the practice of teaching Indonesian for foreign workers at the company.
He also delivered a brief presentation regarding the policy on the Independent Adaptive Indonesian Language Proficiency Test program.
According to him, Krakatau Posco is the only company using foreign workers in Banten Province, that has implemented a comprehensive and independent language program.
Not only does the learning program teach language, but also Indonesian culture, and it is conceptualized in such a way from tests to evaluations.
Meanwhile, Tito Dimas said that the Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Workers Program is the teaching that aims to raise the noble value of the Indonesian language.
He also told about universities that are members of the Affiliation of the Indonesian Language Teachers and Activists for Foreign Workers in Banten, and it was ready to collaborate with the steel company regarding teachers and consultation on teaching materials.
On the same occasion, Krakatau Posco Training Team Leader Sayid Bahri Sriwijaya said that the implementation of the language program at the company was a form of support for government programs, namely the implementation of Law Number 24 of 2009 concerning the Flag, Language and National Emblem, as well as the National Anthem.
In addition, the program aims to expand the understanding on technology transfer and Korean Steelmaking as well as to increase communication and empathy between Indonesians and Koreans by learning about each other’s cultures.
The learning target is that students can read, write, speak and respond to complex situations and can explain ideas.
In this regard, the Korean company continues to innovate in selecting teaching materials and developing learning concepts, adapting to the needs of foreign workers and the company.
According to Sayid Bahri, Krakatau Posco is ready to support the Banten Provincial Language Office program, and the company hopes that the office can supervise the development of teaching materials, specifically for the industrial sector.
Likewise, regarding the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test program, Krakatau Posco is ready to take part in the simulation, and gives inputs so that in the future the program can adapt the model of the Oral Proficiency Test (OPT) or the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC), specifically for the industrial sector.
On the other hand, even though Krakatau Posco already has international standard OPI, the Banten Language Office considers that the leading steel producer still needs the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test program.
It was stated that Krakatau Posco is the only company using KA services in Banten Province that has implemented a language program in a comprehensive and independent way.
During this meeting, the Head of Banten Provincial Language Office and the team had the opportunity to closely observe the process of learning the Indonesian language for foreign workers and learning the Korean language for Indonesian employees.

Krakatau Posco is a joint venture company between Indonesia’s state-owned company PT Krakatau Steel and Posco Korea which operates in the integrated steel manufacturing sector.
