Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and President of the Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have reached an agreement on a commitment to expand market access and remove trade barriers.
“We are determined to increase this cooperation. The meeting took place warmly, productively, full of brotherhood, full of friendship and the desire to continue to increase partnership,” Prabowo said in his press statement with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after their meeting in Ankara, Thursday (10/4).
President Prabowo made a state visit to the Republic of Turkey, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, as a reciprocal visit to President Erdoğan’s visit to Indonesia last February.
The Indonesian head of state emphasized that Indonesia and Turkiye must develop together into economic powers. “Only with economic strength can our voices be heard in this world,” he stated.
In this regard, the two heads of state reached an agreement that the trade ministers of the respective countries should immediately finalize the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), as an initial step towards the Turkiye-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
In the investment sector, the two heads of state also agreed to complete a bilateral investment treaty in the near future.
On the occasion, President Prabowo invited Turkish companies to participate in the development of strategic sectors in Indonesia.
“I invite Turkish companies to jointly participate in the development of the battery industry, renewable energy, as well as the high-end defense and textile industries. I am open to Turkiye participating in the development of energy infrastructure in Indonesia,” he said.
In addition to the economy and investment sectors, the state visit also resulted in a number of strategic agreements that strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkiye.
President Prabowo appreciated the contribution of Turkish construction companies in the construction project of 42 hospitals in the country, and encouraged further cooperation in the health sector, including joint vaccine production.
Indonesia and Turkiye will also establish close cooperation in the defense sector.
“We also have an agreement to create an important joint venture between the strategic defense companies of the two countries,” Prabowo said.
In the meeting, the heads of state also exchanged views on global geopolitical issues. Indonesia and Turkey agreed to continue to contribute to maintaining world stability and peace.
“We will continue to support Palestinian independence together. We also support stability in Syria, and peace in Ukraine. Both parties agreed to continue to help each other in fighting for these things,” the Indonesian president said.
President Erdoğan also conveyed his government’s commitment to continue to improve relations across international frameworks such as the UN, G20, D8, and MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Turkey and Australia).
Turkey also appreciates Indonesia’s position on the Palestinian issue.
“In the future, we will continue to work with Indonesia in terms of the reconstruction of Gaza and also in defending Palestinian rights,” President Erdoğan said.
