World admits Taiwan’s efforts to prevent corona outbreaks

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The spread of Novel Corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, at the end of December 2019 has become global concerns.

A statement from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office received by Indonesia Window here on Monday said so far, more than 100,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide with more than 3,800 deaths.

Taiwan that is geographically closest to China has a great risk of contracting COVID-19.

The Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) of Johns Hopkins University, United States, initially predicted that the epidemic would spread in Taiwan with the level of risk being second only to Thailand.

However, the number of domestic cases on the Formosa Island is far less than those in other developed countries, proving that the preventive measures against the epidemic taken by Taiwan has been very effective.

Recently, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a paper describing the results of Taiwan’s epidemic prevention entitled “Response to COVID-19 in Taiwan – Big Data Analytics, New Technology, and Proactive Testing”.

The article praised the Taiwanese government for quickly taking precautionary measures by confirming the crisis as early as possible, and holding a daily press conference to report to the public, and distribute simple and clear messages.

The paper also lauded Taiwan for integrating some data from health insurance institutions, immigration departments and customs into big data analysis. This enables clinics and hospitals to quickly obtain a patient’s travel history based on public health insurance card to help prevent epidemics.

In addition, Taiwan’s electronic immigration quarantine system uses new technologies such as online notifications and QR codes to help classify the risk of human infection and quickly clear areas of passenger queues at the immigration.

Taiwan has also created a free hotline that proactively expanded community quarantine.

The article’s conclusion stressed that when the corona virus hits the whole world, “Taiwan’s constructive policy on preventing epidemics is a reflection for other countries.”
