Indonesia promotes green economy cooperation with Sweden

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian government promotes green economy cooperation with Sweden, that is in line with RI’s President Joko Widodo’s directive at the G20 Summit which took place on November 21-22, 2020.

“The RI-Sweden partnership is expected to provide added value for the economic recovery of the two countries, one of which is by building a greener and more sustainable economy,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told the opening Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) Week on Monday (Nov 23) which focused on green economy cooperation.

On that occasion, Retno invited the Swedish government to continue to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially through green industry investment, green technology application, capacity building, and the provision of opportunities for young people of the two countries to collaborate.

SISP Week will take place on November 23-27, 2020 as part of a series of 70th anniversary of RI-Sweden diplomatic relations.

Meanwhile, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven in his remarks appreciated the shared views between Indonesia and Sweden on various international issues, such as multilateralism, free trade, climate change, rules-based world order, and gender equality.

The Swedish PM also invited Indonesia to work together to increase cross-border solidarity in dealing with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SISP Week raises a number of issues on sustainable partnerships enhancement, efforts to achieve the 2030 agenda and innovation; urban transport; clean energy transition; water and sanitation management; as well as health.

The diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Sweden began in 1950.

Within 70 years of bilateral relations, the two countries have collaborated in the fields of economy, trade and investment, tourism, transportation, and education.
