Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The climate change is a global problem, and thus its handling requires cooperation of all countries in the world.

In a statement received by Indonesia Window here on Sunday, the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) representative, John Chen, said in accordance with the spirit of the UNFCCC (The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), Taiwan is actively assisting developing countries to deal with long-term mitigation and adaptation plans to combat the climate change.

Taiwan helps Belize and Honduras prevent and cope with disasters, and assists  the Marshall Islands to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 992 tons annually.

As Taiwan is very affected by the climate change, the Formosa Island has developed many appropriate technologies, and is willing to share with other countries.

However, due to international political factors, Taiwan can only attend the UNFCCC meeting as a non-government observer (NGO), and cannot submit Taiwan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC Secretariat.

Taiwan should have the same opportunity to join the global carbon reduction mechanism, negotiate activities related to the Paris Agreement, and work together to provide maximum contribution to the environment and future generations.

John Chen appealed to other countries that the climate change had occurred, and it had affected other countries.

He hoped other countries will not rule out Taiwan just because of political problems because it is willing to cooperate with the international community in maintaining and protecting the world.
