Jakarta (Indonesia Window) — What happens when tap water suddenly stops flowing? Power outages, disrupted water supplies, or emergencies can quickly make access to clean water a serious concern.

Japanese water purifier SESERA offers a different approach through its phase-free concept—a product designed for everyday use that can also support users during disasters or water supply disruptions.

“The product adopts the phase-free concept, meaning it can be used in normal daily life as well as during disasters,” Axton Chandra, SESERA’s distributor in Indonesia, told the press on Friday (Oct. 2).

SESERA does not require electricity or special maintenance. In emergencies, a foot pump allows the device to operate when tap water is unavailable. Water purified by SESERA can be used as drinking water in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and recommended water sources.

The idea is to make emergency preparedness part of everyday life, so users are already familiar with the device before a crisis occurs.

Japanese Award-Winning Technology

Developed in Japan, SESERA received the Good Design Award 2021 and was listed among the selected entries of the Phase Free Award 2022.

The standard SYKM5S model measures 145 × 145 × 355 millimeters and weighs approximately three kilograms, including the cartridge.

For normal use, the manufacturer recommends water that meets tap-water quality standards. Other water sources used during emergencies must comply with the manufacturer’s instructions and limitations.

From Japanese restaurants to Indonesia

SESERA is used not only by households in Japan but also by restaurants in Tokyo, Hyogo, Tochigi and Gunma, according to Axton.

In Indonesia, several restaurants and residential properties have also adopted the product. Axton said filtered water can support everyday activities, including washing food ingredients.

For the Indonesian market, SESERA is being introduced under the broader concept of water security, combining everyday access to clean water with preparedness for potential supply disruptions.

Potential users include homes, villas, resorts, hotels, restaurants, schools, clinics, offices and factories. Japanese companies operating in Indonesia are also being targeted through disaster preparedness and business continuity planning (BCP).

Potential savings of up to 5 million rupiahs a year

Axton said SESERA could potentially save a family at least five million rupiahs per year compared with purchasing bottled water.

However, actual savings depend on factors such as the device price, cartridge replacement costs, water consumption, bottled-water expenses and the quality of the source water.

To provide a more practical picture of user experience, Axton said a 30-day trial involving 20 families is being considered. The program remains a proposal and has not yet been conducted.

SESERA is currently available at Electronic City SCBD, PIK and Karawaci, Tangerang.

Through its phase-free approach, SESERA aims to combine everyday water purification with preparedness for situations when access to water is disrupted.
