Collaboration between the Indonesian government, employers, and trade unions is key to ensuring a sustainable future for work.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian Minister of Manpower Yassierli presented several new regulations on worker protection—covering areas such as wages, domestic workers, and the fisheries sector—to representatives of Asia-Pacific trade unions.

Yassierli noted that the world of work is undergoing transformation driven by technological disruption, climate change, demographic shifts, and global uncertainty—factors that directly impact businesses, workers, and their families.

Consequently, national labor policies must remain rooted in humanitarian principles and the mandates of the constitution, the Minister stated while delivering remarks at the 28th Meeting of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Asia-Pacific Regional General Council in Jakarta on Monday (Oct. 26).

\"Economic growth, technological advancement, and the enhancement of national competitiveness ultimately serve only one primary objective: improving the quality of human life,\" he said.

According to Yassierli, several worker protection regulations have been established, including Government Regulation Number 49 of 2025 concerning Wages, and Law Number 2 of 2026 on the Protection of Domestic Workers.

The Indonesian government has also ratified the Convention Concerning Work in the Fishing Sector (ILO Convention 188)—which regulates labor in the fisheries industry—through Presidential Regulation Number 25 of 2026.

Furthermore, the Bill on Labor Protection was enacted into law on October 6, 2026.

Nevertheless, Yassierli emphasized that the success of worker protection cannot be left to a single party alone. He believes that cooperation among the government, employers, and labor unions is key to ensuring the sustainability of the future of work.

\"As a concrete manifestation of this collaboration, Indonesia continues to strengthen and revitalize the National Tripartite Cooperation Institution as a forum for social dialogue—a space to address labor-related issues, build trust, and develop shared solutions,\" Yassierli said.
