US products entering Indonesia are required to be halal certified. In the United States, recognized halal certification bodies include the Halal Transactions of Omaha (HTO).

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasized that the claim that US products can enter Indonesia without halal certification is false.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy made the remarks in a written statement on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

\"Someone said that US products enter Indonesia without halal certification? So, in short, this is not true,\" Teddy wrote.

The government ensures that all products required to be halal certified must still comply with the prevailing laws and regulations in Indonesia.

\"Products that require certification must have a halal label, either from a halal agency in the US or a halal agency in Indonesia,\" he explained.

The cabinet secretary pointed out that in the United States, recognized halal certification bodies include the Halal Transactions of Omaha (HTO) and the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA).

In Indonesia, halal certification is carried out by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (in the country known as Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal/BPJPH).

Meanwhile, cosmetic products and medical devices are still required to obtain distribution permits from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (known as BPOM) before being marketed in Indonesia.

The sabinet secretary also underscored that the halal agencies of Indonesia and the United States have a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), an international agreement to equalize halal certification within global cooperation.

With the MRA, certification recognition is carried out in a standardized manner and remains within the national regulatory framework.

The government ensures that Indonesia-US trade policies do not eliminate the obligation to comply with national standards, including halal provisions and consumer protection.

The government called on the people not to be influenced by inaccurate information and to ensure all information is obtained from official sources.
