Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Saudi Arabia will soon announce a solar energy project that will produce electricity at the lowest cost per kilowatt, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman said in a Saudi Gazette report quoted here on Saturday.

At the Don't Forget Our Planet conference held by Saudi Arabia's Future Investment Initiative Institute (FII-I), the minister said that the country plans to produce 50 percent of national electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.

Saudi Arabia also plans to expand the use of wind energy, the minister added.

Prince Abdulaziz noted that the current work  is analyzing solar energy projects that can produce the lowest cost per kilowatt of electricity in the world.

At the conference held on Thursday (June 25) he stated that Saudi Arabia is now among the most serious and committed countries in the energy efficiency programs.

The Energy Minister explained that the kingdom is currently in the process of activating many programs, including increasing electricity usage by up to 30 percent through renewable energy.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of electricity supply in Saudi Arabia will be generated through hydrocarbon sources.

At present energy efficiency, including national energy efficiency, energy price reforms and sustainable energy are among the programs being seriously worked on by the government of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz said.
