Iran expresses deep and serious concern over the blatant actions and interventions of several foreign actors, particularly the US and the Zionist regime.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – In order to rectify public opinion in the friendly country, Indonesia, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia conveyed several explanations and the principal positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the latest developments and unrest in Iran.
On Sunday, December 28, 2025, following exchange rate fluctuations, a demonstration by labor and economic unions consisting of several businessmen and traders took place in Tehran.
The demonstration was held for the sake of livelihood and in response to the negative impact of currency fluctuations on business activities and purchasing power.
Their main demands were to restore market stability and implement effective economic measures. The rally was general in nature from the outset. It was peaceful and focused on labor unions and demands.
The protesters attempted to convey their demands peacefully without disturbing public order. The Islamic Republic of Iran adheres to the law and practice of the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration, and recognizes these rights within the framework of its constitution and international commitments, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
All relevant authorities and institutions have heeded the peaceful and legitimate demands of citizens and used their capacities to address and act upon them.
In this context, no action has been taken against peaceful protesters. At the same time, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that a clear and principled distinction must be made between legitimate peaceful protests and organized acts of violence that disrupt public order.
Unfortunately, according to available documentation, in some cases, peaceful demonstrations have been deliberately misused by a small number of violent elements affiliated with externally directed movements, resulting in the destruction of public property, attacks on law enforcement agencies, and the use of incendiary devices and even firearms.
These actions have nothing to do with legitimate economic demands and are considered to fall outside the scope of protection of peaceful protests under international human rights law.
In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran expresses deep and serious concern over the role of the blatant attitudes and interventions of some foreign actors, especially the US and the Zionist regime.
The explicit and interventionist statements and attitudes of officials of both parties, which contain incitement to violence, incitement to riots, threats of the use of force, and legitimization of internal destabilization, constitute a clear violation of the basic principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, especially the principles of national sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the prohibition of the threat or use of force.
In particular, the recent statements by the president and some extremist officials of the US, which explicitly contain threats and incitement to violence inside Iran, together with the blatant attitude of the Prime Minister of the Zionist regime who is clearly and deceptively supporting the riots, have in practice fueled the intensification of terrorist violence and social destabilization.
These positions come at a time when the Zionist regime itself has a long history of acts of aggression, terrorism, and the killing of Iranian citizens.
These claims cannot conceal the true nature of these behaviors. The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that any incitement, support, or facilitation of violent and subversive acts within an independent state is considered an act that violates international law and carries the direct responsibility of the intervening state.
Attempts to exploit the economic demands of the Iranian people as a pretext for political pressure, psychological warfare, or even military threats constitute a clear violation of the independence and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Despite these incidents of organized violence, the law enforcement authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have acted with restraint and within the framework of the law, and in accordance with the principles of urgency and proportionality to maintain public order and security.
Protecting the lives of citizens, including peaceful protesters, has always been a priority, even though during these unrest, a number of innocent Iranians and security and public order officers have lost their lives at the hands of mercenary terrorist elements.
At the same time, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, understanding the economic and social roots of the protests, has put practical measures on its agenda, including an urgent aid package for vulnerable groups and direct dialogue with representatives of labor and market unions, to alleviate the pressure on the cost of living and initiate economic reforms.
In this context, it is emphasized that unilateral sanctions and coercive measures by the United States over the past few years have played a direct and undeniable role in increasing economic pressure on the Iranian people.
The Islamic Republic of Iran once again reiterates its full commitment to protecting the rights of citizens, including the right to peaceful demonstration and protest, while simultaneously considering the protection of public security, the lives and property of citizens, and public facilities as its fundamental responsibility.
These two principles will be implemented simultaneously and without compromise in accordance with the country's international laws and obligations.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta appreciates the attention of the media and public opinion of the Republic of Indonesia, and hopes that developments related to Iran will be conveyed with a comprehensive, fair and fact-based view, and avoid selective and orientated narratives.
The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the continuation of friendly relations with the Republic of Indonesia based on mutual respect and considers dialogue and cooperation as the best way to strengthen peace, stability and peaceful coexistence at the regional and international levels.
