Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Indonesia's accession process to the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) as part of the economic transformation agenda towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto made the remarks during his keynote speech at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) x Growth Gateway Roundtable: Delivering Growth as Part of Indonesia's OECD Accession, held at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) London Office on Monday (Jan. 19).
The forum brought together the Indonesian government, the British government, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), and international business leaders to discuss support for accelerating the OECD accession process and its implications for the private sector, particularly within the OECD Investment Framework.
"OECD accession is not merely a technical process, but a national strategic priority and a crucial foundation for realizing the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," Airlangga said in a press release from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday (Jan. 20).
According to him, aligning Indonesian policies with OECD standards is expected to strengthen governance, improve regulatory quality, and sustainably promote national economic competitiveness, thereby increasing investment and boosting the national economy.
Airlangga also expressed his appreciation to the British government for its ongoing support in Indonesia's accession process to the OECD, and to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for its technical support, particularly in assisting the national team in accelerating Indonesia's accession process to the OECD.
On the same occasion, the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jeremy, emphasized the importance of this meeting, given that the following day the President of the Republic of Indonesia was scheduled to launch the United Kingdom–Indonesia Strategic Partnership.
On the same day, Airlangga was also scheduled to sign the Indonesia-United Kingdom Economic Growth Partnership (EGP) as part of strengthening economic cooperation between Indonesia and the UK.
Also delivering remarks on the occasion was Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), who emphasized that Indonesia's economy is very large and requires significant support to grow further. One strategic effort is through Indonesia's accession to the OECD.
Anindya N. Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (locally known as its abbreviation KADIN), also emphasized the strong support from KADIN and the private sector in accelerating Indonesia's accession process to the OECD.
In a panel session, Tim Figures, a Global Expert on Geopolitics and Trade, explained the successful experiences of various countries in accelerating their escape from the Middle Income Trap after becoming OECD members.
In line with the Team Figures, during the session, Shinta W. Kamdani, Deputy Chairperson of KADIN, reiterated the support of the private sector and the need to continue explaining to the business community the importance and positive implications of Indonesia's accession to the OECD.
This meeting also marked the official kick-off for the private sector involvement in supporting Indonesia's accession to the OECD, supported by the UK FCDO and the Growth Gateway Program.
This initiative is expected to become a strategic platform to strengthen dialogue and collaboration between the government and the business community in supporting Indonesia's OECD accession agenda.
"With close collaboration between the government, the business community, and international partners, Indonesia is optimistic that it can accelerate the process of accessing the OECD, realizing the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045, and ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic growth," Airlangga said.
