Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the World Water Council delegates led by the council’s president Loic Fauchon at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, President Joko Widodo, among other things, emphasized six topics that should be discussed in holding the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, one of which is the need for water for humans and the environment.

“We from the World Water Council and also from the National Organizing Committee for the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, have just been received by the president,” Indonesia’s Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said in a statement after accompanying the president in the meeting.

According to the minister, the president ordered six topics to be discussed at the World Water Forum, including the need for water for humans and the environment,” Basuki said.

He explained that the topic of water needs for humans and the environment is a concern because President Widodo views that currently the world is already facing a global water crisis.

Therefore, the head of state hopes that the 10th World Water Forum in Bali is expected to produce a number of concrete recommendations, the minister added.

“The president saw that we are already facing the global water crisis. For this reason, he hopes that the 10th World Water Forum would not only be an ordinary conference, but would also produce concrete recommendations for actions,” the minister said.

Furthermore, Basuki said that on Monday-Tuesday, February 15-16, an initial meeting will begin and be attended by the Board of Governors of the World Water Council, consisting of 56 people, and more than 1,400 participants.

“Hopefully this kick-off meeting can go well to encourage everyone. So the aim is to mobilize all stakeholders in the water sector to be more aware of problems with water resources management,” he added.

Meanwhile, Loic Fauchon expressed his gratitude for the support from President Joko Widodo and all Indonesian stakeholders in the water sector, calling on all parties to well prepare the next year’s forum.

“We have to prepare the World Water Forum in Bali next year. Together, during the coordination process, we have to try providing new solutions, new responses, that can increase water access for billions of people,” he said.
