Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – In recent years electric bicycles (e-bikes) have attracted consumers in Europe and the United States, encouraging Taiwan to take this opportunity to dominate the market.
A statement from the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) mentioned that Taiwan’s electric bicycles accounted for more than 64 percent of the European Union (EU) market in 2019, ranking first in the world for the EU market.
Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita recently expressed his hope that Indonesia could develop and produce bicycles and its components in line with the increasing domestic demand of electric bikes.
The ministry has boosted the development of the domestic electric bicycle industry as Indonesia has such mineral resources as nickel for electric bicycle batteries.
With Taiwan already dominating the world market for electric bicycles, Indonesia could collaborate to massively develop this business.
Taiwan already has a complete industrial chain in the manufacturing of bicycles and electric bicycles, including that for bike components.
Mountain bikes with frame made of titanium alloy or carbon; racing bikes weighing only six kilograms; lightweight and portable folding bikes; and electric bikes that are easy to drive, as well as a variety of high-end bicycle components have been produced by Taiwanese companies.
