Indonesian president receives Japanese Special Envoy in Jakarta

Special Envoy of Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida and delegates visited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, on Sunday (May 4).

 

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received Special Envoy of Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida and delegates at the former’s residence in Jakarta, on Sunday (May 4).

Kishida and delegates met Prabowo in the evening during which the former delivered a letter from Prime Minister Ishiba to the Indonesian president.

“One of the letter’s key points was regarding his role as a special envoy for the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) projects,” Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto told the journalists after the meeting.

According to the Indonesian Coordinating Minister, the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation within the AZEC framework, noting that Indonesia currently has over 170 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Japan.

“Tomorrow (May 5), a financial closing for the geothermal project in Indonesia’s Muara Laboh area, West Sumatra province, will be signed. The project has a capacity of 80 MW with an investment of US$500 million,” the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for the Economy said.

On the occasion, President Prabowo expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and Japan. “Mr. President also expressed hope that such close cooperation continues to grow, especially amid the ongoing tariff war,” he added.

Sharing the same information with Airlangga, former Japanese PM Kishida underlined the importance of strong bilateral ties amid global uncertainty.

“Mr. Kishida emphasized that in these uncertain times, cooperation between the two nations is paramount,” the Indonesian senior minister said.

At the meeting, the Indonesian head of state was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto.
