Indonesia, Singapore reach 19 agreements at leaders’ retreat

Singapore Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, and the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, reached 19 strategic agreements in various sectors during the annual Leaders’ Retreat on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The annual Leaders’ Retreat meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and Singapore Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, on Monday, June 16, 2025, produced 19 strategic agreements in various sectors.
“I think this Leaders’ Retreat was very productive and very successful. We held a very productive meeting, one-on-one, and we produced 19 results in many sectors of cooperation in this year’s retreat,” President Prabowo said in a joint press statement after the event.
In the political and security fields, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement and accelerate the technical finalization of military training areas.
In addition, progress has also been made in the extradition agreement mechanism, including the renewal of the MoU between the Attorney Generals of the two countries, according to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat in a written statement quoted by Indonesia Window on Tuesday.
“In the political and security sector, we reaffirm our commitment to fully implement the defense cooperation agreement and complete all technical details for the military training area. And I hope this will be accelerated very quickly. We are also making progress in the extradition agreement mechanism,” President Prabowo said.
In the conomic sector, the president expressed his appreciation for Singapore’s position as one of the main investors in Indonesia.
“Thank you for the trust you have given us and we want to continue to strengthen this collaboration and partnership,” he added.
Six bilateral economic working groups are also listed in the agreement, including the development of special economic zones, agriculture, tourism, labor, and transportation.
The president also highlighted the importance of collaboration between Temasek and Danantara (Indonesia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund), especially in the renewable energy sector and the development of low-carbon areas in Batam city, Bintan district and Karimun district (all in Indonesia’s Riau Islands province).
Regarding food security, the president welcomed Singapore’s offer in the transfer of modern agricultural technology, including urban farming and sustainable post-harvest practices.
“We welcome the signing of the memorandum of understanding as a basis for strategic cooperation in the fields of food security and agricultural technology,” he said.
In the health sector, President Prabowo invited Singapore’s active participation to support the transformation of Indonesia’s health system, including the establishment of new medical and nursing faculties.
Cooperation on the placement of skilled workers from Indonesia was also discussed in the meeting, especially in the fields of elderly care and caregiving.
In terms of connectivity, Indonesia is committed to adding direct flights with Singapore and improving airport infrastructure.
“In principle, I want to see easier and faster access to our airports,” the president said.
The head of state emphasized the importance of the Indonesia-Singapore strategic partnership that has existed for more than five decades.
“I am very confident that this bilateral relationship would continue to grow stronger with increasing trust and confidence in each other over time. I look forward to welcoming you (Singapore Prime Minister) and your delegation to next year’s Leaders’ Retreat in Indonesia,” he said,
