Saudi Arabia to begin Eid Al-Fitr on May 2

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Based on the report of the Supreme Court, the government of Saudi Arabia stated that May 1 is the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, so that the 1st Shawwal 1443 Hijri is confirmed to fall on Monday (May 2).

The Supreme court said that following reports received from courts based on testimonies of those who are experts in the field that the moon of Shawal was not seen. Therefore, it has been decided that Sunday 30/9/1443AH, according to Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to May 1 is the last day of the holy month of Ramadan and that Monday 1/10/1443AH, according to Umm Al-Qura calendar, corresponding to May 2 is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr,” the Royal Court said which is carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

Earlier, the crescent of the month of Shawwal could not be sighted from the Tamir observatory or from the observatory of Majmaah University in Hautat Sudair on Saturday (Apr. 30).
