Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – As the center of government, business and economic activities in Indonesia, air quality in Jakarta is quite alarming.

The Government News Network (JPP) reported as quoted by Indonesia Window here on Wednesday that not only does air pollution in Jakarta come from motorized vehicles, but also emanate from generator sets which are used when events are taking place and during building construction activities.

The National State-owned Electricity Company (PLN) stated that it encourages people in Jakarta to use electric vehicles to reduce pollution by preparing outdoor electricity using the PLN Power Bank.

“PLN wants to work together with the Jakarta Provincial Administration in creating a healthier air in the capital city without pollution by campaigning more on using electric vehicles in daily life,” Acting PLN’s President Director Sripeni Inten Cahyani said.

Earlier, the Jakarta Provincial Administration held the Jakarta Langit Biru (blue sky) Carnival on Sunday (Oct 27, 2019) featuring a convoy of electric vehicles on some main streets in the city.

PLN supported the event as the company has the same vision in optimizing the use of electricity to create a pollution-free environment.

During the event, 378,000 Volt Ampere (VA) of electricity was supplied from PLN without the use of any generator.

To increase the supply, PLN prepared two units of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with a capacity of 100,000 and 300,000 VA to back up the electricity when there is a power outage.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the Jakarta Langit Biru event was held to make Jakarta’s sky blue again without pollution.

To realize the goal, PLN also supports the use of electric vehicles by providing Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for cars and motorcycles that have been built at several points in Jakarta.
