Feature – Qur’an Waqf Agency provides clean water facility in Indonesia’s Suren hamlet, Yogyakarta

Indonesian Suren hamlet’s residents in Kulon Progo district, Yogyakarta province, can now breathe a sigh of relief and rejoice after years of difficulties in accessing clean water.

Yogyakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian Suren hamlet’s residents in Kulon Progo district, Yogyakarta province, can now breathe a sigh of relief and rejoice after years of difficulties in accessing clean water.

In a statement received by Indonesia Window in capital Jakarta, Sunday, the Qur’an Waqf Agency (locally known as its abbreviation BWA) through the WAFP (Water Action for People) program again inaugurated its waqf (an inalienable charitable endowment under Islamic law) for a clean water facility in Suren hamlet, Pagerharjo village on Saturday (24/8).

The inauguration of this waqf for the clean water facility took place at the Sulen Hamlet Hall. Present at the event were Ustadz (teacher) Ichsan Salam as CEO of BWA, Hazairin Hasan as BWA’s Chief of Networking & Distribution Liason, Gusti Bendara Pangeran Haryo (GBPH) H Prabukusumo, Pagerharjo village head and various community leaders, representatives of local administrations, and the surrounding communities.

It is hoped that this project can be a solution for hundreds of residents who have been experiencing difficulties in accessing clean water for their daily needs.

In his remarks, GPBH Prabukusumo expressed his respect and gratitude to BWA.

“I would like to express my respect and gratitude to BWA for the completion of this clean water project.  BWA has really realized the clean water facility for the residents of Suren.

He advised that clean water be managed by residents as well as possible in the future, so that every resident who receives the benefits feels that they have and then take care of it.

“Hopefully this clean water facility would be useful for the residents of Suren,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ustadz Ichsan Salam also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the residents of Suren hamlet and all parties who have participated in this project.

The WAFP Dukuh Suren project is the 55th project achieved by BWA in meeting the need for clean water to assist government programs in terms of equitable distribution of clean water facilities in remote parts of the country.

“We are grateful to all parties who have been involved in this good project. Thank you very much to the residents of Suren Hamlet, because here we are ready to use a BWA waqf project,” he said.

He hopes that rewards would flow to the waqif who have participated in this project.

The inauguration ceremony was closed with the signing of the waqf pledge and the ceremonial ignition of tap water which indicates that water has flowed in Suren hamlet.

GPBH Prabukusumo then symbolically handed over a jug filled with water to one of the residents of Suren.

This clean water waqf is used for access to clean water for 400 residents in Suren hamlet. Before the existence of this waqf for clean water facilities, residents had to travel a long distance to get clean water, especially in the dry season. With the existence of this waqf for clean water facilities, it will greatly help residents and is expected to improve the level of public health in general.

According to Ustadz Ichsan, BWA continues to be committed to alleviating clean water problems experienced by residents in various regions in remote parts of Indonesia.

He invited Muslims to work with BWA, providing the best waqf to help brothers and sisters who are experiencing a clean water crisis.
