Indonesia ready to play active role in resolving Gaza, Mideast conflicts

Indonesia is ready to play an active role in encouraging a resolution to the conflicts in Gaza and the Middle East comprehensively.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized that Indonesia is ready to play an active role in encouraging a resolution to the conflicts in Gaza and the Middle East comprehensively.
President Prabowo made the remarks in his press statement at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, before starting his visit to the Middle East and Turkey.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am doing this because there have been many requests for Indonesia to be ready to play an active role in supporting and seeking a resolution to the conflicts in Gaza and the Middle East as comprehensively,” President Prabowo said.
Although Indonesia is geographically far from the center of the conflicts, the head of state emphasized that Indonesia has a strategic position as one of the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world.
In addition, as a non-aligned country that is free and active, Indonesia is ready to play an active role and as a party accepted by all parties, it has gained the trust of the international community.
“I think this position makes us responsible. Therefore, I state that Indonesia is ready if asked by all parties involved to play a role. We are ready to play a role according to Indonesia’s capacity and capabilities,” he said.
As a form of humanitarian commitment in Gaza, President Prabowo said that the Indonesian government has sent medical assistance and a health team that is currently working in the conflict areas.
The President also expressed his appreciation for the dedication of health workers and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) that have been on duty in the field.
“We have likewise sent a medical team that continues to work in Gaza and the conditions are quite dangerous, the hospital where we work is often shot at. We are grateful. I thank our soldiers from health, TNI who work there,” he said.
The president further said that Indonesia is ready to help injured victims, children, and Palestinian civilians affected by the conflict.
He instructed the Indonesian foreign minister to immediately discuss with the Palestinian side and related parties to discuss the mechanism.
“We are ready to evacuate those who are injured, those who are traumatized, orphans, as well as anyone who the Palestinian government and related parties want to evacuate to Indonesia,” the president explained.
However, the president emphasized that the presence of the victims in Indonesia is only temporary. “When they recover, conditions in Gaza allow, they must return home,” he added.
To that end, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of consultation and coordination with regional leaders regarding this matter.
The head of state also emphasized that Indonesia’s active role is not only a form of solidarity, but also a form of commitment to humanity and Palestinian independence.
“This is something complicated, not easy, but the commitment of the Republic of Indonesia is to support the safety of the Palestinian people, to support Palestinian independence. I think it also encourages the Indonesian government to play a more active role,” he said.
