The President underscored that the infrastructures are an important foundation to support the economic transformation towards an industrial country.

“We want to become a modern country, a developed country. We want to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people. We want to eliminate poverty from Indonesia. For that, energy is very vital. We have quite large natural resources and we now have the ability to carry out this transformation,” the Head of State said.

President Prabowo also targeted self-reliance in energy within the next five years, including stopping the import of fuel oil.

The President is optimistic that Indonesia would become one of the main players in the global energy transformation.

“Indeed, we must be self-sufficient in energy and our target is that we will be 100 percent self-sufficient in energy. I believe that in the not too distant future we would no longer import fuel from abroad. I am confident that in five years we would no longer import fuel,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT PLN (Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company) Darmawan Prasodjo on a separate occasion said that the success of this project is inseparable from the support of the government under the leadership of President Prabowo.
