The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Indonesia hopes that Indonesia take advantage of its membership in the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN), to support the rights of Muslims throughout the world and the rights of Palestinians.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Indonesia hoped that Indonesia take advantage of its membership in the Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN) during the 2024-2026 period, to support the rights of Muslims throughout the world and the rights of oppressed people in Palestine in particular.

This hope was conveyed by Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Boroujerdi at a media briefing commemorating the International Al-Quds Day here on Wednesday.

The International Al-Quds Day, established in 1980 by Iranian leader Ayatullah Khomeini, is celebrated every last Friday of the month of Ramadan as a sign of the unity of the Muslims against Israel and supporting the Palestinian people.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Indonesia, as two important Islamic countries, both bilaterally and through international forums, have always supported the Palestinian struggle and based their position on the full independence and service of Palestine,” Ambassador Boroujerdi said.

“Indonesia is standing on the right side by taking a clear and firm stance on Palestine,” he added.

The firm and principled attitude of Indonesia’s government, nation, president and foreign minister in supporting Palestine and condemning the crimes of the Zionist regime, especially during the last six months, is something that should be appreciated, he said.

“The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi are heroes for me,” the Iranian Ambassador said.

“The brave speech of Mrs. Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, in international forums and organizations such as the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, the UN Human Rights Council, the International Court of Justice, and others, shows the continuation of Indonesia’s unceasing support until the realization of Palestinian independence,” he continued.

The Iranian Ambassador regretted that the claimants for the protection of human rights in the world have never acted on their main duty of unconditional and uninterrupted protection of human rights, taking practical steps to stop acts that violate human rights and punish those who violate them.

“They use human rights to carry out their interference. In a country’s internal affairs, in order to achieve their political hopes and desires, they apply double standards. The silence of human rights claimants regarding the murders of Palestinian women and children oppressed by the Zionist regime is proof of this claim,” Ambassador Boroujerdi explained.

He continued, stopping the international human rights community’s serious action against the forced transfer, ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians by the Zionist regime occurs when this false regime always tries to honor its inhumanity by referring to the holocaust.

“Now, the Zionist regime is actually doing the same thing to Palestine,” the Iranian Ambassador said, while worrying that Israel’s invasion and objectives would not stop in Gaza, but would continue to spread to the West Bank, and could even include Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt.

The Iranian ambassador emphasized that the Israeli air attack that destroyed the Iranian Embassy building in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on Monday (April 1), would be responded to by Iran with an intelligent, timely and targeted resolution, through legal, political and international measures.

A number of international media reported that at least 32,845 Palestinians were killed and 75,392 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
