COVID-19 – Indonesia has administered 88 mln doses of vaccines

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – At least 88 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been injected into Indonesian people until early August 2021.

“This means that of the more than 400 million vaccines needed, almost 25 percent of the vaccine doses have been injected,” the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 Vaccination Spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi said during a discussion via YouTube RRI Net Official, Monday (Aug. 23).

Nadia pointed out that there are six vaccine brands in Indonesia used for vaccination, namely China’s Sinovac and Sinopharm, American Moderna, American multinational Pfizer and British-Swedish multinational AstraZeneca, and a local vaccine produced by state-owned enterprise Bio Farma.

Earlier, on Thursday (Aug. 19), Indonesia received the first shipment of 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from the 50 million doses ordered by the government, she noted

“In addition, we have also received 450,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and on Friday (Aug. 20) there was additional 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. These doses complete the need to vaccinate 208 million people,” said Nadia.

To date, Indonesia has received 170 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with some of which have already been used.

Nadia stressed that the government continues to accelerate the second phase of vaccination program, which targets children and teenagers over the age of 12.

From September to December 2021 Indonesia will receive more vaccine shipments, reaching 80 million doses, she added.

“This is important as once the vaccines are available we have to increase the number of injections to 2 million doses per day,” said Nadia.
